Question to respond to: How does Robert Browning reveal the true character of the Duke in his dramatic monologue poem "My Last Duchess"?

Introduction: (we wrote this in class; use if you wish)
                  hook sentence (s) about power. Robert Browning reveals the true character of the Duke in his dramatic monologue poem "My Last Duchess" through the setting, the words he uses to describe the Duchess and his tone to express his power.

Body paragraph 1:  How does Browning use setting to reveal the character of the Duke? (give a minimum of two examples with textual evidence and then explain why each is significant.)

Body paragraph 2: What does the Duke say about the Duchess that exposes his character? (give a minimum of two examples with textual evidence and then explain what is revealed of this man.)

Body paragraph 3: Explain what tone is and then show that what the Duke says on the surface is not the primary message he wishes to convey. (give a minimum of two examples with textual evidence where he says one thing, but means something quite different.

Closing: (do not repeat the introduction) What is the larger message that Browning wishes to impart? Why is this significant beyond the context of the poem.
